Is this course for me?

This interactive course is for physicians, nurses, health providers, divers, and ocean sports enthusiasts. We warmly invite those who travel, dive, or treat people who do. Join us for hands-on scenarios in the classroom and on a chartered dive boat.

Why Bonaire?

Bonaire's pristine reefs and diverse marine life are unique in the Caribbean. The waters around Bonaire are designated as an official marine park, so diving in Bonaire is like diving the Caribbean the way it used to be – pristine. The island's location in the south Caribbean gives it an arid climate with little rainfall. The absence of silt helps maintain the water's exceptional clarity. The ocean is calm and divable anytime of the year. It is an ideal destination for underwater photographers. Water temperatures average a warm 78-84°F (25.6-28.9°C), with visibility often averaging over 100 feet(30m), and frequently, up to 150 feet (55m). Scuba Magazine has given Bonaire the best rating for shore diving in the world for the past five years.

About the course:

The goal of this course is to offer participants an in-depth review of marine and diving medicine. Attendees will learn:
- evidence-based management of diving injuries
- when to refer patients to hyperbaric oxygen therapy
- dangers and challenges of the marine environment
- how to assess fitness to dive
- prevention and treatment of common travel illnesses

We hope to give participants the information and skills to manage dive & travel-related illnesses. Unlike many courses, we will present patient scenarios on the beach and on a chartered dive boat. This course features interactive classroom discussion and case-oriented lectures that will give you confidence in making initial treatment decisions about patients in the marine environment.
